Addition of New Liens
A lien is a record maintained by the MVA of the debt owed by a vehicle owner to a secured party (lender). A secured party lends the money to the owner and has the power to repossess the vehicle if the owner does not repay the loan.
If the vehicle is subject to a security interest lien, a recording fee of $20 will apply. A notice of security interest filing is mailed to the lending institution or person and the title is mailed to the owner. After the lien is satisfied, the security interest document must be mailed to the owner and kept with the title. Both documents are required to sell or trade the vehicle/trailer.
