Substitute Tags

Substitute tags may be requested when [1] Your vehicle’s original license plates are lost, stolen or damaged and you want to replace them with license plates of the same type; [2] You want standard license plates to replace your Chesapeake Bay, Agriculture, Vanity or organizational license plates; [3] You want to replace standard plates for Chesapeake Bay, Agriculture, Vanity or organizational license plates.

Reason One May Request a Substitute Tag/Sticker or Registration Card:

1. Your vehicle’s original license plates and/or stickers are lost, stolen or damaged and you want to replace them with license plates of the same type or format;
2. You want standard license plates to replace your Chesapeake Bay, Agriculture, personalized message (vanity), or organizational license plates.

Where One May Apply for a Substitute Tag/Sticker or Registration Card:

1. Authorized MVA Approved Tag & Title Service
2. Any Full Service/Express MVA Branch Office
3. Mail Your Supporting Documents to the MVA’s Mail-In Registration Unit in the Glen Burnie office,
